Clerkship Coursework

Dear Student Doctor’s,

Welcome to your Emergency Medicine Clerkship! My name is Ms. Saunders and I will be your course coordinator for the emergency medicine clerkship. We are excited to share our dynamic and rewarding specialty with you over the next four weeks. The goal of this rotation is to provide a comprehensive and interactive learning experience that will help prepare you to become future clinical leaders in emergency medicine.

Throughout your rotation, you will receive training through a variety of educational formats. Small-group sessions and simulation-based learning make up approximately 25% of our didactic curriculum. During your time in the Emergency Department (ED), you will gain exposure to diverse clinical areas, including critical care, trauma, adult, and pediatric emergency medicine. You may also encounter procedural and toxicology cases.

As an Emergency Medicine rotator, you are required to:

  • Attend weekly didactic sessions.
  • Attend assigned clinical shifts (attending an unassigned shift will not complete your course requirements)
  • Complete a PowerPoint presentation (rubric available in the EM4701 Toolbox). Maimo students you may present in person.
  • Submit a patient follow-up (instructions provided during orientation and available in the EM4701 Toolbox).
  • Log and obtain signatures for all required case logs/procedures.
  • Maintain an attendance grid—each shift must be signed by the attending or resident you worked with. (Please make sure the sheet is complete.
  • Submit one evaluation form for each shift (details provided via email and explained during orientation).

All documents mentioned above are available on the student website: em-students.clinicalmonster.com.
If you misplace any of your materials, you can access replacements in the EM4701 Toolbox on the website. You’ll also find the Clerkship Handbook and answers to frequently asked questions about the course.

Please remember that you are responsible for completing and submitting all course documents. Incomplete materials will require you to return to the ED to obtain the appropriate signatures.
